The 2026–2029 Marches Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) Report has been published following sign-off by the Secretary of State, placing employers at the heart of the local skills agenda. The plan covers Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.
As one of 39 LSIPs across England, the Report sets out current and future skills needs for key local sectors. It is aligned with national priorities and shaped by the region’s demographic and environmental profile.
Led by Skills England, the LSIP programme supports skills and post-16 education policy. Shropshire Chamber of Commerce was appointed in 2022 as the Employer Representative Body for the Marches, and this Report marks the start of the second three-year cycle.
The Report focuses on high-employment sectors with long-term potential, helping people across the Marches access strong career and employment opportunities.
The Marches LSIP team works with employers, post-16 education providers, local authorities and public and private sector partners to strengthen the link between training and employment.
Employer input remains essential. By sharing sector insights, supporting curriculum development or simply taking part in a confidential Marches LSIP interview, businesses help training providers understand industry needs and shape courses that reflect modern workplace standards.

Businesses of all sizes, sectors and locations across the Marches are encouraged to share their views over the next three years. As needs evolve, ongoing feedback will help partners respond and keep skills provision relevant.
