Why EchoGuide Theatre exists, and why we're launching it in Hereford
Picture a student who can speak confidently in conversation with her peers, then watch her freeze the moment a script lands in her hands. She looks down to the ground. The words don’t come out. Her cheeks flush.
I spent twelve years in English and Drama classrooms watching that happen. Different schools, different students, the same shape of moment. The EchoGuide family of tools are the ones I needed and never had… until now.
I built them because we need to have the confidence to speak up and out, more than ever.
What is EchoGuide Theatre?
EchoGuide Theatre, our newest app and it is available now at studybeyondenglish.com
It is a real-time rehearsal app. As a performer speaks, the next word lights up; the script becomes a quiet prompt rather than a wall of text. Dyslexia-friendly display settings and pacing feedback are built in. Performers can import their own scripts or use the prompts inside the app.
The phrase that captures it best is "no loose pages." Speakers are not standing on stage clutching paper. They are speaking with gentle guidance and a calm safety net behind them. That changes how a person holds themselves in front of an audience, and it changes how an audience receives what they have to say.
EchoGuide is free to use, and EchoGuide Pro has even more bells and whistles to support you under more taxing circumstances, with chunking of your text, pacing feedback and breathing exercises before you begin. EchoGuide Events and EchoGuide Theatre are the next revolutions in the suite of tools built to guide you as you deliver your words.
Who are the apps for?
It is for the Year 10 student who has been told she talks too much in class but goes silent in front of an examiner. It is for the drama student who knows every line in rehearsal and forgets them all on the night. It is for the adult amateur performer who loves the stage but hates what nerves do to them. It is for the parent who wants something practical for a child who struggles with spoken assessments. It is for any teacher in Herefordshire who has watched a student shrink, and quietly wished there was something better to support them.
The bigger picture
Study Beyond English is building an accessibility-first education platform. The EchoGuide family of tools are our first public products, and the long-term mission is simple: no one should be locked out of learning by the format in which it is delivered. Sir Ken Robinson wrote about this for years. Not every brilliant mind thrives in the same room under the same conditions, and the cost of pretending otherwise is paid by the students we lose.
Our model is what I call strategic generosity. The student-facing product stays free, always. Schools, MATs, Trusts and Companies come in through EchoGuide Pro Platform for whole-year and whole-setting use, and that is the layer that supports the work.
